Obituary

Leasa Lynn Penny, of Laurel, DE, surrounded by her husband, daughter and step-daughter, Ashley Miller from New Zealand, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on April 23, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Leasa was born in Dearborn, Michigan on September 2, 1970, to her parents John (deceased) and Karen Kuckinskas. At an early age, Leasa's family moved to Pennsylvania where Leasa grew up, later attending and graduating from North Hills Senior High in Pittsburgh, PA. Her parents and three sisters (Audrey Flamos, Gale Kelly and Christine White) would later move to Virginia Beach, VA before settling in the Eastern Shore of Maryland. After high school, Leasa began a career in retail management ascending to managerial positions at JCPenney, Kohls, Petco and CVS. Leasa married her husband, Rob, in 2003 and welcomed the pride of her life, Madison, in 2006. Shortly after Madison was born, Leasa left the corporate world and began working for the family business, Kelly Appliance Service, where she worked until her illness. Leasa was an active person, loved exercising and walking the boardwalks at the Maryland and Delaware beaches. She was a sports enthusiast and loved cheering for her favorite teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins and hometown Delmarva Shorebirds. One of Leasa's great joys was gathering with family frequently to include her mother, husband, daughter, sisters, nieces, and nephews. The greatest accomplishment of Leasa's life was being a phenomenal mother. Leasa devoted every day for last twelve years of her life to homeschooling her daughter. A celebration of Leasa's life will be held Saturday, April 29th at 1:30 p.m. with a period of fellowship from 1:00 pm to 1:30 at Abundant Life Worship Center, 6070 Hobbs Rd, Salisbury, Maryland 21804. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers Leasa has asked that donations be made in her memory to the Allen Cancer Center, 701 Middleford Rd, Seaford, DE 19973, payable to "Tidal Health Oncology Center at Nanticoke Hospital," C/O: Rachel Garner, with a memo of: in memory of Leasa Penny. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.
