LAUREL- Lawrence F. "Larry" Burgess, 60, of Laurel, and formerly of Frederick, Maryland, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 20, 1950 in Charleston, West Virginia, a son of the late Romie and Ann Burgess. Larry was raised in Seaford and lived his later years in Laurel and Frederick. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1968 to 1971. He worked as a contractor and inspector for WSSC in Gaithersburg, Maryland for many years. He was an avid golfer and skier and loved all sports. He enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in their sports endeavors and got a great deal of satisfaction out of coaching in the Laurel Little League for many years. Larry was also a huge Maryland Terrapins fan. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends, especially his grand-dog, "Copper", the St. Bernard he loved and several other grand-dogs he adopted and cared for through the years. He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Andrea Stone Burgess; two daughters, Dawn Wilson and her husband, Jamie of Laurel and Bathsheba Compton and her husband, John of Easton; a son, Eric Burgess and his wife, Lauren of Camp Pendleton, California; four grandchildren, Landis, Stone, Seth and Brodie; and sisters and brothers, Carolyn Burgess of Ohio, Denny Burgess of West Virginia, Danny Burgess of West Virginia, Mary Ellen Neis of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ricky Burgess of West Virginia, and Mildred Songer of Texas. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. No formal services are planned at this time.
