MARDELA SPRINGS- Larry W. Shockley, 65, of Mardela Springs, died Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at his home. He was born in Sharptown, a son of the late Norris K. Shockley, who passed in 1999 and Velda Bradley Shockley, who passed in 2007. Larry spent his youth in Sharptown and graduated from Mardela High School. He worked as a correctional officer for the MD Department of Corrections for over 22 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mardela Springs and served as Vice President on the Mardela Town Council. He had a passion for all sports, with NASCAR, golf and especially softball being his favorites. He played first base for Mardela/JV Wells men's softball team for many years. If you couldn't find him on the softball field, chances are you'd find him on his tractor. He loved being outdoors, cutting grass and working in his yard. His true passion was his family. He adored his wife, his children and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharon L. Hostetter Shockley; a daughter, Sonya L. S. Black and her husband, Lt. Col. Charles N. Black, USMC, of Wesley Chapel, FL; four grandchildren, Ashley K. Phippin, Jordan C. Black, Kyle M. Brixner and Charleigh E. Black; and a sister, Audrey S. English and her husband, Herman of Sharptown. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he sadly lost a daughter, Wanda L. Brixner, who passed in 2002. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. The Reverend Gary T. Tyndall will officiate. Interment will follow at Mardela Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Short Funeral Home of Delmar.
