Obituary

Larry Gene Milburn, Sr., 70, of Delmar, and formerly of Cape Charles, VA, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at his daughter's home in Delmar. He was born September 14, 1943 in Nassawadox, Virginia, a son of the late Luther Edward Milburn ("Snookie") and Anna Lucille Bennett Milburn. After school Larry enlisted in the Army National Guard. He worked on the railroad as a brakeman for Conrail and as a conductor for Amtrak and retired after 25 years of service. He was an avid golfer who played as often as possible and proudly carded 12 holes-in-one, once getting two in the same round. He was an accomplished magician and loved performing at the Delmar Public Library, at LifeCare at Lofland Park for the nursing home residents and children's birthday parties. He was a rodeo rider for a few years in Cowtown, New Jersey, which earned him the nickname "Bronco Larry", from his railroad buddies. Larry was a faithful Washington Redskins fan for many years and stuck with them through the years, good or bad. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Sylvia M. Milburn; 2 sons, Robert Nicholas Milburn (Jennifer) of Gainesville, VA and Larry Gene Milburn, Jr. of Laurel; a daughter, Debbie Lynn Elliott (Tommy) of Delmar; 5 grandchildren, Crystal, April, Heather, Rich and Alex; and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Sylvia Bundick of Accomack, Virginia; an aunt, June Windsor of Lusby, Maryland; 3 sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Milburn; and an infant sister, Barbara Ann. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 12:00 to 1:00. Interment will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Laurel. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963, or to the Alzheimer's Association, Eastern Shore Chapter, 108 N Bedford St, Georgetown, DE 19947.
