Obituary

L. Calvin Serman, Sr., 82, of Salisbury, died Saturday, December 6, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 23, 1931 in Fruitland, a son of the late Lester Clayton Serman and Susie Bounds Serman. Calvin ran the family farm, Serman Farms, for many years, a job he truly loved. He was a member of Laurel Church of Christ and a very active member of the Hebron Ruritan Club. One of his greatest accomplishments was proudly earning his high school diploma, which he did in 1974. His life revolved around his church, his family and his farm. He is survived by five children, Lester Calvin Serman, Jr. and his wife Barbara Ann of Virginia Beach, Carol Serman Brown of Salisbury, Samuel Clayton Serman and his wife Christine Louise of Virginia Beach, William Lee Serman and his wife Janice of Galestown and Jennie Serman Grubbs of Salisbury; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Sarah Hopkins and her husband Tom of Salisbury; and brothers-in-law, Samuel Whitney Day IV and his wife Virginia and George Thomas Day and his wife Diane. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Emma L. Serman and a brother, Leonard Serman. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. Wayne Mathis will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are being handled by Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
