LAUREL- King L. "Jr." Gullette, 82, of Laurel, died Monday, March 28, 2011 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born July 10, 1928 in Salisbury, a son of the late Lemuel and Virginia Ryan Gullette. King, or as he was affectionately known as "Jr." to family and friends, proudly served his country in the US Air Force. He retired in 1991 after 34 years of service as a welder for Cambridge Wirecloth. He was a long time, active member of Grace Baptist Church in Seaford, where he has served as a deacon, men's bible class teacher, Sunday school teacher and sung in the choir. He loved spending time in his vegetable garden where he would grow corn, watermelon, strawberries and a variety of other fruits and vegetables. Being good with his hands, he enjoyed working on old cars and airplanes, a result of his service in the Air Force. He was an avid NASCAR fan and rooted for Jeff Gordon. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Alma Gambrill Gullette; a daughter, Laura Beth Karch and her husband, Brian of Cambridge; a grandson, Chris Geer of Fruitland; and two sisters, Stella Ellis of Laurel and Joan Adkins and her husband, Joe of Salisbury. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Norene Gillis, Della Johnson, Margie Adkins and Shelbourne Gullette, who passed as an infant. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home, Delmar, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00.
