IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen M.
Hipps
December 22, 1948 – March 3, 2026
Kathleen Margaret Hipps, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on December 22, 1948, she was a daughter of the late William Cyrus DiGiacomo and Gloria Sorbino DiGiacomo. Kathi resided in Ocean View, Delaware, where she created lasting memories with her family and friends.
Kathi led a vibrant life filled with purpose and passion. In her younger years, she worked in a detectives office showcasing her sharp intellect and dedication to uncovering the truth. However, her heart truly found its calling in education. As a special education teacher at Medford Vo-Tech in New Jersey and later for the Seaford School District in Delaware, Kathi inspired countless students fostering a love of learning that will be remembered by many.
Family was the cornerstone of Kathi's existence. She was a dedicated wife to her husband, Greg Hipps, who she married September 11, 1999, and a loving mother to her daughters, Kathy Desautels (Steve) and Diane Gosizk. She is also survived by grandchildren, Billy, Angelique, Amber and Danny, and great-grandchildren, Raelynn, Alyssa, Ryann and Olivia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Stephen (Stevie).
A remarkable cook, Kathi embraced her Italian heritage, often delighting her loved ones with delicious meals during family gatherings. The holidays, particularly Christmas, were her favorite occasions, as she reveled in entertaining and creating cherished family memories.
Kathi had a playful spirit, with passions that included a lifelong obsession with Elvis Presley, fervent support for WWE wrestler Cody Rhodes, and loyalty to the New York Yankees. She had a profound love for Labs, particularly her dogs Dakota, Harley Pop and most recently Yankee Girl, who brought her immense joy. A self-proclaimed "Jersey Girl," Kathy always carried a piece of her roots with her, and her warm heart and infectious laughter will be dearly missed.
Kathi leaves behind her husband Greg, her daughters Kathy and Diane, and a wealth of friends and family who will gather to celebrate her extraordinary life.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, where we invite all who knew and loved Kathi to join in honoring her memory, sharing stories, and finding comfort in the love she so generously gave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to RonaldMcDonaldHouse.org, a cause dear to Kathi's heart.
Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home of Delmar.
