With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Karen Janeen Jewell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend to many, who left this world on Saturday, June 29, 2024. Born on July 7, 1945, in Baltimore, a daughter of the late William Franklin Clevenger and Jeanette Elizabeth (Nash) Clevenger. Janeen grew up cherishing her Eastern Shore heritage and graduated from Stevensville High School with the class of '63, where she was on the cheerleading squad and was active in many school activities. Janeen's life was dedicated to serving others, whether it be through her contributions to the Kent Island Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and VBS for many years, her work as substitute teacher at Kent Island Elementary and teacher's aide at Stevensville Middle, or her pivotal role in establishing Secretarial Solution and later Crown Jewell Travel and Beacon Travel. She served as President of the Chesapeake Women's Network and was a member of the Kent Island Yacht Club and a proud member of the Stevensville High School Alumni Association. Her impact was felt not only in the business world but also in the numerous community organizations she was a part of. She will be remembered for her love of talking on the phone with friends and collecting angels, Beanie Babies and Cabbage Patch dolls in her younger years. Her favorite things were traveling with Bucky, being at the beach with her kids, family crab feasts and trying to make her grandkids laugh. She once sang on stage with her favorite singer Tom Jones and later in life danced with her favorite "Dancing with Stars" dancer Maxsim Chermovsky. Janeen shared over 46 years of marriage with her high school sweetheart, Thomas "Bucky" C. Jewell, Sr., and together they raised three children: Christy Jewell Ward, Thomas C. Jewell, Jr. (Amy), and Gregory William Jewell (Kimberly). She was a devoted mother, known for her involvement in her children's activities as a soccer mom, scout leader, and friend to many. She is also survived by beloved grandchildren, Amy Jewell Mullins (Aaron), Carlye Ward Pass (Tim), Tyler Jewell, Emily Jewell, Liam Jewell, and Lyla Jewell; great grandchildren, Carter and Haylie Pass and Tanner and Callie Mullins; sister, Kathy Jones (Bruce); and a nephew, Cory Jones; brother-in-law, Charles Jewell (Claudia);many cousins; special nieces and nephews from Bucky's side of the family; and a host of close and special friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Janeen was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Mary Frances Jewell; and sister-in-law, Vicky Kaufman. Funeral services and ceremonies to honor Janeen's life will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 12:00 pm at the Kent Island Methodist Church. Family and friends may call from 10:00 to 12:00. Reverend David Bennett and Reverend Bobby Timms will officiate. Interment will follow at Stevensville Cemetery.
