Obituary

Julia Corbin Dickerson, a beloved member of the Snow Hill community, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the age of 92, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Salisbury, MD, on December 19, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Charles Hobson Corbin and Clara Lee Sturgis Corbin. Julia found joy in various aspects of life that left a lasting impact on those around her. Through her work as a sales clerk at J.J. Newberry's, Julia formed connections with many in her community and displayed a genuine warmth and kindness to all she encountered. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her shared passion for gardening with her husband and the camping adventures they embarked on together. Square dancing was a passion of Julia's in her younger years. Julia cherished her roots, graduating from Pocomoke High School in 1949, and continued to maintain friendships with classmates by frequenting the local deli in town.In her early years she was a member of Salem UMC in Pocomoke, and later Mt. Olive UMC. Her love for horse racing and hosting deer hunters on their farm showcased her hospitality and zest for life. A devoted mother to her daughter, Debbie Layfield and husband William, Julia found immense joy in spending time with her granddaughter, Whitney Layfield, and great-grandchildren, Aulbri Layfield and Brenden Card. Her genuine care and love for her family were evident in every moment shared together. She is also survived by a brother, Marvin Corbin and wife, Sandra; several nieces and nephews; and a host of close and special friends. Julia was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 2011, Russell B. Dickerson; brothers, James Corbin and C. Winfred Corbin; and sister, Nancy Lindland. In tribute to Julia's life, a visitation will be held at Bates Memorial United Methodist Church on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at the same location at 11:00 am. A burial ceremony will follow at Bates Memorial Cemetery. Julia's legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories will be forever remembered by those whose lives she touched. May her spirit live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
