Obituary

March 22, 2026, Julia Margaret Crawford, age 89, joined her heavenly Father. She is survived by her beloved sister, Elizabeth Joan Crawford, with whom she shared a home in western Wicomico County. Born September 23, 1936 in Washington, D.C., Julia was the daughter of Frances Mary and Richard H. Crawford.

She lived in several different locations before settling on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She graduated Salutatorian from St. Paul’s High School in Daytona Beach, FL. In her senior year, she won the highly competitive Voice of Democracy contest at the school and county levels. Moving with her mother and sister to Salisbury, MD in 1956, Julia attended Salisbury State College. Graduating in 1960, she later earned her Master’s Degree at Stetson University in Deland, Florida. Julia was a member of Phi Alpha Theta, a history honor society. Julia taught elementary school and later middle school in Wicomico County for thirty-three years. Many of those summers included travel to foreign countries which she felt broadened her skill as social studies teacher. Julia was honored with being named Wicomico County’s Middle School Teacher of the Year in 1989.

Julia was an avid dog fancier and shared that enthusiasm with her mother and sister, Elizabeth. Their kennel name was Wyemede. Always a serious hobby and never a business, Julia often said that one of the greatest gifts our dogs give us are the friends we make through them. Over the years, she owned many different breeds with Bernese Mountain Dogs and Tibetan Spaniels being her favorites. Especially important to Julia was her membership in the Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club (SMKC) and the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America (BMDCA). She was honored by the BMDCA with its Outstanding Service Award and Life Membership in 1992 and in 2007 was awarded by SMKC the AKC (American Kennel Club) award for Outstanding Sportsmanship. One of Julia’s greatest joys in life was in helping others succeed in their worthwhile endeavors.

Donations given in her memory may be made to the SMKC Charitable Trust at P.O. Box 1264, Salisbury MD 21802 or to a charity of your choice benefitting dogs.
