DELMAR- Joseph William Weber, 87, of Delmar, died Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was born April 11, 1926 in Long Island, NY, a son of the late Joseph W. and Mary Louise (Schlosser) Weber. Joe served his country in the US Navy near the end of World War II. After his discharge he worked various jobs on the railroad and in construction before landing a job as a radio and television technician for Preston J. Hudson Radio and Television in Laurel. Through the years he also worked on the family farm as a side job. He has been a faithful member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church since 1949 where he helped around the church for many years, taking care of maintenance and keeping the floors waxed and shining. For Joe his family came first, followed closely by his church. He had an extensive collection of jazz records. His love for jazz music began at an early age in the 1930's and 40's when he could take the train into New York City to listen to some early jazz. He was also an antique radio buff who had an affinity for his collection of old parts and radios. He is survived by his sister, with whom he lived for many years, Elizabeth C. Weber; a brother, Chris W. Weber of Florida; a special nephew and niece, William and Linda Weber of Salisbury; and several other nieces and nephews. The family would like to also acknowledge the staff of Delaware Hospice, especially Sara Devleeschower and Tara, for their kindness and comforting care given to Joe and the family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, William (Bill) F. Weber. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Delmar. Interment will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar.
