Obituary

Joseph Alexander Seagraves, Sr., 91, of Parsonsburg, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014 at his daughter's home in Delmar. He was born on October 23, 1922, a son of the late Eugene and Effie Seagraves. Joseph was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran. He began his career as a shoe salesman, and then went on to work at Crown Cork and Seal in Fruitland, retiring in 1984. He very much enjoyed being around friends and was known as a flirt. He and his wife enjoyed going on cruises and traveling with friends. He is survived by five children, Phyllis Seagraves Belton (Avery) of NC, Vicky Seagraves of Laurel, Joseph A. Seagraves, Jr. of Salisbury, Susan Marie Blades of Delmar, and Michael E. Seagraves of Salisbury; grandchildren, Teresa Ann, Matthew, Andrew, Lucy, Brittany, and Addy; one great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Marie Seagraves; three brothers, Clyde, Edgar and Paul Seagraves; and three sisters, Evelyn Shoaf, Myrtle Sowell and Rachael Greene. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. In memory of Mr. Seagraves, contributions may be sent to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Maryland 21802 or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
