Obituary

John William "Jack" Lynch, 80, of Delmar passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at the Stansell House in Ocean Pines after an extended stay. He was born on May 18,1943 in Milford, Delaware, a son of the late George W. Lynch, Sr., and Mabel Mariner Lynch. Jack graduated from Delmar High School with the class of '62, where he was a member of the football team and the 4 man track team. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for over 14 years. Jack worked as a textile supervisor at E. I. DuPont Co in Seaford and retired after 33 years of service. He loved being outdoors, especially farming and working on their family farm. After retirement, he found cutting his lawn and lawns for others to be gratifying. Jack also loved spending time with family and friends and made many fond memories along the way. These included mall walking, bus trips, ballgames, and other outings that usually involved food. Jack was an active member of the Delmar Kiwanis Club and the Delmar Alumni Association. He was an avid sports fan with a special place in his heart for Delmar, the Orioles, and the Shorebirds. He also dedicated his time to coaching his daughter's softball team where he taught not only skills of the game but values of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance. When his grandchildren came along, his love for family grew even more and he rarely missed a game or school function if they were involved. Jack will be remembered for his dedication to his job and community, his love of the outdoors and most importantly, his love for his family. He found contentment in life's simple joys. He is survived by a daughter, Lori Ann Dorsey and her husband Michael of Hebron; grandchildren, Brooks Michael Dorsey and his wife Amber of Hampton, VA, Rachel Elizabeth-Ann Layfield and her husband Brady of Virginia Beach, VA; a great grandson, Christopher Crews; a sister, Star Lee Parsons; brothers, Alex Lynch and wife Margot and George W. Lynch, Jr. and his wife Rosemary; several nieces and nephews; and a host of close and very special friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, JoAnn Mariner Lynch; brother, Leland Lynch; brother-in-law, Wayne Parsons; and nephews, Tommy Parsons, and Casey Lynch. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar.
