Obituary

John O. "Jack" Calloway, 81, of Mardela Springs, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born in Laurel, Delaware, a son of the late George G. and Bly Owens Calloway. Jack enjoyed his work as a farmer for many years and also worked as a rural mail carrier. He was a lifelong active member of the Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for almost 60 years. He also proudly served with the Wicomico County Fire Police. He was a member of Emmanuel Methodist Church in Mardela Springs. He cherished his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jack was good with his hands and had a passion for woodworking, puzzles and enjoyed watching sports. He will be greatly missed by his family: sons, Mike Calloway of Salisbury and his partner, Sandy Gurey, and Patrick Calloway and his partner, Carrie Krystek of Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren, Candice Bradshaw and her husband, Michael of Mardela Springs, Heather Adkins and her husband, Wade of Timonium, Chelsea Yurik and her husband Karl of Berlin and Macleod "Mac" Baldwin of Berlin; two great grandchildren, Zoe and Charles Bradshaw of Mardela Springs; and a sister, Betty Keyser of Kansas City, Missouri. He is also survived by daughters-in-law, Jan Calloway of Berlin, Melba Kepner of Salisbury and Bobbie Calloway of Salisbury and numerous beloved relatives. The family would like to give special thanks to Chris Green for all of her loving care. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Elizabeth Collins Calloway and a son, Stephen C. Calloway. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, Delmar, where family and friends may call from 12:00 noon to 2:00. The Reverend J. Harvey Dixon will officiate. Interment will follow at Mardela Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
