John E. Halfhill, Sr, 64, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland. He was born December 29, 1947, in Washington, North Carolina, a son of the late, Emmett Ray and Effie Viola Halfhill. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam. He retired from Perdue Farms as a shop foreman of the Salisbury garage. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing, Haflinger horses, NASCAR and camping at Trails End in Virginia. In his earlier years, he enjoyed rebuilding cars and trucks, and most recently he rebuilt tractors. He is survived by his wife, Bernadette M. Halfhill; a daughter, Ruthanne Halfhill Burke and her fiancé, Bill Fitzgerald of Laurel; a son, John E. Halfhill, Jr. and his girlfriend, Choe Huskey of Emporia, VA; three grandchildren, Cameron M. Halfhill, Amanda M. McGarvey and Joseph M. McGarvey; five sisters, Peggy Westerman of Seaford, Ruth Sutton of Greeneville, NC, Ann Kimball of Felton, DE, Sue Kline of Detroit, MI, and Jean Atkinson of Mesquite, TX; two brothers, Emmett Ray Halfhill, Jr. of Tyner, NC and Billy Ray Halfhill of Windsor, VA; three brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Arthur E. Palmer of Ocean City, MD, Reynold M. Palmer of Lake Merritt, FL, Bobby and Mania Phillips of Laurel, DE; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog," Molly B." In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Eloise Simpkins and Eva Rae Wulff. A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, in Delmar. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Tyaskin Cemetery.
