John William Grill, Jr., 61, of Salisbury, died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. He was born in Baltimore, a son of Margaret (Zink) Grill of Baltimore and the late John William Grill, Sr. John loved his work as an engineer, helping to make airplane parts at Pat's DeCrane in Georgetown, where he worked for the past four years. From the time he was a child, he loved the water and boats were his passion. He was excellent with computers, loved a friendly round of golf and enjoyed anything that challenged him. Growing up in Baltimore, John was an avid Baltimore Colts and Ravens fan. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his beloved wife of nine years, Mary Morgan (Marvel) Grill; two sons, John William Grill, III of Baltimore and Robert James Grill and his wife, Connie of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Taylor Grace Grill and Robert James Grill, II: a brother, James Grill and his wife Judy of Catonsville, MD; two sisters, Laura Shanks and her husband Jeff of Gibson Island, MD and Meg Hoffman and her husband John of Catonsville, MD; two step daughters, Tammy Mattei and her husband, Rod of Snow Hill and Crystal Lambert and her husband Randy of Parsonsburg; and a step son, Gerald Cordrey, Jr. and his wife Tillie of Millsboro. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, where a memorial service will be held at 7:00. Brother-in-law, Patrick Marvel and sister-in-law, Joan Hart will officiate. A second memorial service will be held on Friday, April 10 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Baltimore Yacht Clu, 800 Baltimore Yacht Club Road, Essex, MD 21221.
