DELMAR- Joanne Revel, 80, of Delmar passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 30, 1932 in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, a daughter of the late Saylor H. and Rachel M. Lutz. Joanne will be missed by her family who will celebrate her gentle spirit and remember her humor, kindness, and forgiving nature. She was truly the heart of her family. While she worked various jobs throughout her lifetime, her most important was being a homemaker and raising her family. She was a gifted musician, a voracious reader and a doting "Mom Mom," with a natural ability to bring out the best in her family. She enjoyed family gatherings, going for rides that always ended up near the water and dabbling with painting. She is survived by her husband of over 40 years, John Robert "Bob" Revel, Sr.; 7 children, Fredericka Sutton, Sharon Kilburn, Amy Swiezy, David Phillips, Michael Phillips, Laurie Short and Angela Downes; 4 step children, Debbie Phillips, Michael Revel, Bruce Revel and Amy Hixon; grandchildren, Elliott Inocencio, Christopher Decker, Misty Kelley, Holly Cournoyer, Brian Marvel, Marci Phillips-Kontoff, Stefanie Phillips, Daniel Downes, Lindsay Downes and Robert Short, Jr.; great grandchildren, Aaron, Kevin, Kayla, Gavin, Dylan, Noah, Sophia, Julian and Alexandra; a great-great grandchild, Destini; a brother, Alan Smith; 2 special sisters-in-law, Darlene and Ruth; many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and a special niece, Joanie. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a step son, John Revel, Jr., a sister, Rose and brothers, Jimmy and Jack. A graveside celebration of Joanne's life will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Pittsville Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
