Obituary

SALISBURY- - Joan Pate Forcey, 79, of Salisbury, and formerly of Adelphi, Maryland, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. She was born in Washington, DC, a daughter of the late James B. and Etta Busey Maddox. Joan retired after 30 years of service as an administrative assistant at Washington Hospital Center, a job she truly loved. She attended Washington Bible College in Lanham, Maryland and was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Salisbury. After retirement, she moved to the Eastern Shore to be able to spend more time with her family. She was a servant of the Lord who had a gift for sharing the gospel and loved mentoring young women. She enjoyed gardening and needlework and left many friends and family members with her handmade gifts. She is survived by a daughter, Dawn Duvall and her husband, Brewer of Salisbury; a son, Robert Pate and his wife, Carmen of Texas; three grandchildren, Holly Pate, Kacy Genthe and her husband, Herb and Samantha Lauritch and her husband, Philip; two great grandchildren, Makayla and Gabriel; two sisters, Janet St. Michel and Jeri Peterson; and a brother, James C. Maddox. She is also survived by several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clark Burton Forcey, who passed in 1996. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, Dagsboro Road in Salisbury, where family and friends may call from 4:30 to 5:30. Pastors George Herrmann and Robert Reinert will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Maryland. Memorial contributions may be made to Washington Bible College, attn: Development Office, 6511 Princess Garden Parkway, Lanham, MD 21706. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home, Delmar.
