Obituary

Jesse Lee McGinnis, 54, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury. He was born October 19, 1967, in Lewes, DE, a son of Robert R. and Judy D. (Brandner) McGinnis. Jesse graduated from Delmar High School with the class of '87. Right out of high school, at the age of 18, he started his career as a truck driver, and he absolutely loved it. He was known for his strong work ethic and would do anything to help a co-worker or customer. In his early days, he hit the road driving for Greenspring Dairy, where he worked for 5 years, followed by a 20 year period where he drove for Sysco. For the past 6 years he drove for Amick Farms. Jesse's life could be summed up simply by family and fishing. Fishing for fun or in competitions with his fishing buddies or spending time with his family was his way to unwind and enjoy a day on the water. He was a dedicated family man, and nothing could stop him from spending time with granddaughter Avery, who was the apple of his eye. He also loved all his nieces and nephews as if they were his own. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 31 years, Vicki L. (Bell) McGinnis; daughter, Heather Shores and husband, Pat; son, Tyler McGinnis and companion, Katelyn; his cherished granddaughter, Avery; brothers, Ray McGinnis (Bea) and Will McGinnis; nieces and nephews, Erin Howard (Jake), Ryan Bell (Emily), Ray McGinnis, III, Joe McGinnis, Johnny McGinnis, Matt Raileigh, Eian Hall, Brooklyn Hall and J.J. Hall; great nephew, Liam; great niece, Ella; mother-in-law, Diane Hall; and brothers-in-law, Bobby Bell (Kim) and Jason Hall (Erica). He is also survived by "brothers from another mother," Terrance Gerstle (Kimberly), Dutch Halderman (Debbie), Gene Walker (Melissa) and Joe Wood (Connie); and a host of special friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses in ICU at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional for the wonderful care provided to Jesse during his stay. A celebration of Jesse's life will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may visit from 12:30 to 2:00.
