OCEAN PINES- Jeffrey Samuel Pickard, 51, of Ocean Pines, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born January 31, 1959 in Muskegon, Michigan, a son of Ethel Ann Marko and her companion, Ted Hackenberg of St. Cloud, Florida and the late Chester L. Pickard. As soon as Jeff graduated from high school in Michigan, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While proudly serving his country he made his career out of his Navy experience, and retired in 1997 as a Petty Officer after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Sinepuxent American Legion, Post 166 in Ocean City and a very active member of the American Legion Riders. He was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Newark, Maryland. After retirement, Jeff worked for a number of years at Harvard Custom Manufacturing in Salisbury. After losing his legs in an accident, Jeff used his passion for motorcycles and for his country to start a business called Haus of Trikes, which he converted motorcycles into three wheelers to help the disabled to be able to ride again. His positive attitude was an inspiration to many and his desire to help his fellow man was unwavering. He very much enjoyed visiting with amputees and returning wounded veterans and helping them adjust to their circumstances. He was an advocate for the Home of the Brave and was also very supportive of the Senior Olympics; providing constant encouragement to the team and his wife with her swimming events. Other passions of Jeff's were snowmobiling, boating, flat track racing, NASCAR, where he was a big Jeff Gordon fan and a Baltimore Ravens fan. In addition to his mother and her companion, he is survived by his beloved wife Edith Vogl Pickard; two sons, Zachery A. Pickard of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and Gary L. Pickard and his wife, Kirstin of Cookville, Tennessee; two step daughters, Maria Love of Ocean Pines and Patti Hogan and her husband, David of Belton, Texas; a step son, Ernest Love and his wife, Kelli of O'Fallon, Illinois; five grandchildren, Kessiahrose Pickard, Stephanie Fajkus, James Fajkus, Pierce Love and Drake Love; two sisters, Cheryl Ann Stoll and her husband, George of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Corinna Jane Garner and her husband, Dana of Romulus, Michigan; his step mother, Joyce Pickard of Lakeland, Florida; and a lifelong friend, Ed Sovereign. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Jeff's life will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 8426 Newark Road, Newark, Maryland, 21841.
