Jean Whelpton Jones, 95, of Springfield, Va., and formerly of Delmar, Del., passed away Friday, January 2, 2009, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Va., from congestive heart failure. She was born on Oct. 4, 1913, in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Lula M. Whelpton. Mrs. Jones was a retired bridal consultant from the Hecht Company in Salisbury. She was a longtime volunteer at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury and a docent at the Salisbury Zoo. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia J. Bradford of Alexandria, Va.; a brother, Peter G. Whelpton of Palmetto Bay, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C. William Jones, who died in 2002, and a brother, Joseph Whelpton. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Parsons Cemetery in Salisbury. A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
