SALISBURY- Jean Althea Groner Pope, 85, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, July 1, 2017. She was born February 17, 1932 in Tannersville, Pennsylvania and was a daughter of the late Raymond C. and Ruth V. Schauffler Groner. Jaen retired after 47 years of service as a manager and training specialist at the former Reads Drug store, which later became Rite Aid. She also worked 6 years at Bennett Construction in Fruitland. Jean was a wonderful and loving grandmother to Scott and Jason. She loved them with all of her heart and would have done anything for them. She was an avid Baltimore Ravens and Orioles fan and enjoyed casino gambling and playing bingo in her later years. She is survived by children, Thomas E. Pope, Salisbury, Linda C. Pope, Salisbury and Joanne M. Hearn, Laurel; grandsons, Scott M. Hearn, Weyers Cave, Virginia and Jason T. Hearn, Baltimore; and several nieces and nephews in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Marie Strunk and Gladys Smith; brothers, Clarence Groner and Elwood Groner; and a son-in-law, Jay J. Hearn. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, 312 E Main Street in Fruitland, where family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30. The Reverend Lance Ness will officiate. Interment will be private. Following the memorial service, all in attendance are welcome to join family in the church hall for a time of food and fellowship.
