Obituary

Janet Margaret (Gains) Davidson died peacefully in her sleep at Tidal Health Hospital on September 5th, 2023 in Salisbury, Maryland, at the age of 63. Janet is survived by her father, the Reverend Father John Gains of Georgetown, DE, her children Douglas J. Davidson of Quinby, VA, and Jaclyn (Joshua) Griffin of Delmar, MD, and beloved granddaughter Jaina Griffin. She also leaves behind dear friends who have become chosen family. She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Catherine Gains, brothers John Michael and Joseph Matthew Gains, and husband Douglas O. Davidson. Janet was born in Chicago, Illinois to John and Mary Catherine (Kennedy) Gains. She graduated from Indian River High School in 1977, and from Delaware Technical and Community College in 1999 with an Associate's in Early Child Care. She married her high school sweetheart, Douglas O. Davidson, in 1977. During her life she had many careers, including nursing, child care, dog training, and several small businesses from tax preparation to puppet shows to pet accessories and treats. Doug and Jaclyn remember her as a strong woman who withstood many challenges in her life, while always putting her children and family first. She is remembered by her friends and 'adopted' kids as kind and courageous, with a warm heart and listening ear. She made friends wherever she went, even in the ICU during her final days. Janet was passionate about her granddaughter, Jaina. She believed her most important job was spoiling her little angel. There was no craft or art she wouldn't try and excel at, including painting, knitting and crocheting, wreath making, sewing, and jewelry making. She loved animals and music (even if she couldn't carry a tune!). Funeral arrangements are private. A celebration of Janet's life will be held near or on her birthday next month, details to be confirmed.
