LAUREL- Jane P. Gordy, 75, of Laurel, formerly of Delmar, died Saturday, January 1, 2011 at her home in Laurel. She was born January 5, 1935 in Parsonsburg, a daughter of the late William Jennings Bryan and Olive Parker Adkins. Jane worked for many years as a waitress at The English Grill and Johnny & Sammy's and also worked as a cashier at the IGA in Delmar. She loved being around people and cherished the friendships formed with employers and customers. Family and friends will treasure the handmade crafts she gave to them, as she loved to sew, make lampshades and make many other types of crafts. Gardening and flowers were also favorite hobbies of hers. She enjoyed traveling and always looked forward to her annual camping trips to West Virginia with special friends. She is survived by four children, R. Steven Gordy and his wife, Bonnie, and Daniel James Gordy, all of Laurel, Laura Jane Parker and her husband, Richard and Pat Shockley and her husband, Gary, all of Delmar; seven beloved grandchildren, Nicole Gordy, Michelle Parker, Melissa Smith, Josh Gordy, Larami Ball, Malinda McLain and Gus Shockley; ten great grandchildren; and a very special friend, Judy Terlson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Robert J. Gordy; her stepfather who raised her as if she was his own, Louis Adkins; and a grandson, Brian Parker. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. , and also Thursday, January 6, 2011, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home, Delmar, where services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the services at Line United Methodist Church Cemetery, Whitesville.
