ASPERS, PA-Jan Ellen Bowden Soth, 46, of Aspers, Pennsylvania, formerly of Snow Hill, died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at her home in Pennsylvania. She was born April 9, 1964 in Salisbury, a daughter of the late James L. Bowden and Delores Dutterer Bowden. She attended Snow Hill High School and graduated with the Class of 1982. She was a member of the National Honor Society, and a star basketball player, who with her teammates went to the Maryland State Girls Basketball finals four years in a row, winning the State Championship three times. She was a member of Bates Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill and had recently been attending Wenksville United Methodist Church in Wenksville, PA. She was a local business owner, with her parents and husband, who owned the Downtown Video Store in Snow Hill and the Pines Video Store in Ocean Pines. She was also the co-owner of the Judge's Bench restaurant in Snow Hill with her parents. She graduated from the University of Maryland, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and was an honor student there, and also received her Masters degree in education from Western. Maryland College. She was employed as a teacher with the Carroll County Board of Education, where she taught Human Ecology classes at Liberty High School until 2000, at which time she became assistant principal at the newly opened Century High School. She had been employed at Century for 13 years until her health caused her to retire in 2008. She was a devoted and loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She loved her home and was content to be at home with family and their five dogs. She is survived by her husband, John Austin Soth; her son, Michael D. Burke and his fiancé', Anna Mackley of Bel Air, MD; her daughter, Jennifer Fallabel of Dillsburg, PA; and her grandson, Josh Fallabel of Dillsburg, P; her brother, James L. Bowden, II and sister –in-law, Karen Bowden of Princess Anne; her brother, Jeff Bowden, and her sister-in-law, Tina Bowden of Ocean City, MD; her nephews, James L. Bowden, III, Stephen Bowden, Zachary Bowden and Jacob Bowden; her Aunt Myrtle Pusey of Snow Hill; her uncle Tom Bowden of Salisbury; and additional aunts and uncles and many cousins. A celebration of Jan's life will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Bates Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill. The Reverend Charles Strickler will officiate.
