Obituary

James Carl Williams, Jr., 93, a man of great strength and character, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at his home with many loved ones at his side. Born on November 29, 1915 in Salisbury, he was the son of the late James Carl Williams, Sr. and Grace Elizabeth Smith Williams. His siblings were Ralph Washington, Emily Virginia, David, Leslie Roland, Marion Franklin, and Paul LeRoy, all deceased. He received his schooling in the Wicomico County public schools, then worked at construction related jobs until joining the Army and serving in Germany during World War II. He was the recipient of 3 bronze medals during that time and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. James enjoyed a long career in construction, and started a family company, Carl J. Williams and Sons, Inc. with his father. They were later joined by his brother, David. He learned carpentry from his father and took correspondence courses in blueprint reading and estimating. For the next 60 years their company built several homes, many banks, businesses, and schools on the Delmarva Peninsula. James was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many capacities- Bishop, high councilman, teacher, and friend, to name a few. His loving and caring character and Christ like attributes have been an example to numerous people. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nora Smith Williams; two sons, James Bruce Williams and his wife, Kristin, of Salisbury, and Roland Hammond Williams of Orem, Utah; a stepson, Woody Long and his wife, Lynda of Greenwood, DE; five grandchildren, Shane Long (Tammy) of Georgetown, DE, Jamie Nopper (Jeff) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Nate Williams (Melanie) of The Bronx, New York, Steffan Williams (Caryn) of Kansas City, Missouri, Torrie Ellis (Cassidy) of Orem, Utah; three great-grandchildren, Parker James Ellis of Orem, Greyson James Williams of Kansas City, and Scarlett Kristin Williams of The Bronx. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Hammond Williams. Funeral services, officiated by Bishop Howard B. Long will be held Monday, April 20, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Greenlawn Lane in Salisbury. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Wicomico Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so may make a memorial contribution in his name to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints marked for The Perpetual Education Fund c/o Bishop Howard B.
