James Lowell Walter, 81, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016 at his home in Delmar. James was born on August 12, 1934 in Mardela Springs, a son of the late William and Ruth Walter. He worked many places as a mechanic and at P&A Asphalt Company in Delmar for over 25 years. He loved his animals but will be greatly missed by his T.V. buddy, his cat "Miles." Farming was a lifelong passion of his and there was nowhere else he'd rather be than working in his fields. In his early years, he attended the First Baptist Church of Delmar, where he was baptized in 1956. He is survived by his wife; Joan Truitt Walter of Delmar; a son, Chris Walter; a daughter, April Thompson and her husband Edward, all of Delmar; two grandchildren, Ryan Thompson and Brandon Thompson and his fiancé Kim Hopkins; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife and mother of his children, Ruth Ann Walter Steffens; brothers, William, Robert, and Donald Walter; a sister, Phyllis East; and a nephew. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Delmar, 501 Bi-State Boulevard in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar.
