Obituary

James T. Fox, Sr. (Jim), surrounded by his loving family, entered the presence of Jesus on Friday, October 25, 2024. In his passing, God proved His faithfulness once again. Jim is now at peace with the Lord he loved and served so faithfully. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, he was the son of the late Reverend Clarence John and Sarah Elizabeth Fox. He was preceded in death by his brother Clarence Fox, his sister-in-law Patricia Fox, his sister Louise Parenti, and his brother-in-law Anthony Parenti. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Fox, married for 63 years. He was 87 years old. Jim was a graduate of the 1955 class of Hebron High School and a college graduate of Maryland State Teachers College (now Salisbury University) receiving his Bachelor of Science degree. He was Senior Class President, voted "Mr. Salisbury State University," and past president of the Salisbury State Alumni Association. He received his Master of Education degree at the University of Maryland. In the community, he was a past member and officer of the Hebron Lions Club. He was a member of the National and Maryland Elementary Administrators Associations and was a past president of the Wicomico County Elementary Administrators Association. Jim devoted 32 distinguished years to the Wicomico County Public School (WCPS) system, serving as both a teacher and administrator. His career began at Pittsville High School, where he taught for two years, followed by five years at Delmarva TV School, one year at East Salisbury School, and two years at Salisbury Elementary School. Jim was a beloved principal at Glen Avenue Elementary for 18 years and at Beaver Run Elementary for four years. After retiring from WCPS, he continued his commitment to education as a second-grade teacher at Salisbury Christian School, later becoming its Lower School principal and serving on the Board of Governors. Jim's dedication to his students and colleagues left a lasting impact throughout his career. Jim loved his church and was an active member of Nelson's Church in Hebron for many years. He taught Adult Sunday School, was church treasurer, and was a respected Lay Leader. During his lifetime, he was active in the choir, youth leadership, Promise Keepers, the Emmaus Community, and Small Group Fellowship. He loved the Lord and served him faithfully throughout his entire life. Jim was a kind, wise, faithful, and happy man who truly embodied all the fruits of the Spirit. He greatly loved his family and is survived by his high school sweetheart, best friend, and wife, Brenda P. Fox, and their three children: Susan Colliton and her husband Kevin of Hebron, Lori Bennett and her husband Reverend David Bennett of Sharptown, and Reverend Dr. James Fox, Jr. and his wife Dawn of Salisbury. He is survived by eight grandchildren: Sarah Colliton Ruf and her husband Adam; Corie Colliton; Patrick Colliton and his wife Isabel; John Bennett and his wife Tori; Rachel Bennett Chambers and her husband A.J.; James Fox, III and his wife Amy; Jordan Fox and her husband Justin Pusey; and Jessica Fox. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren: Ruby, Raegan, and Paxton Ruf; Jack and Camden James Chambers; Lennon Fox; and Goldie and Bobbie Colliton. He is also survived by a niece, Linda Fox Hearn, and nephews, Tony and Jim Parenti. A period of visitation with family and friends will be held at Nelsons Church in Hebron, Maryland, on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00, followed by a celebration of life at the same location at 4:00. A private family graveside service will be held at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Salisbury Christian School, 807 Parker Road, Salisbury, MD 21804 or Nelsons Church, 200 N Main St, Hebron, MD, 21830 are encouraged.
