James Quincy Caudill, 82, of Laurel, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at his home. He was born on March 14, 1932 in the historic Caudill cabin located on the Blue Ridge Parkway. He was a son of the late James and Carrie Caudill. In his younger years Quincy was a member of the Laurel Police Department, and owner of his own pulp wood business. He went on to work for C.W. Wright and later worked for Armigers Auto in the early years of 2000. He is survived by three sons, Roger Hawkins of Laurel, Dana Caudill (Victoria) of Gastonia, NC, and Farley "Hoss" Caudill (Lisa) of Laurel; a daughter, Maxie Wilson (Ulysses "Roger") of Laurel; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Caudill; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; four brothers, Franklin Caudill and Billy Ray Caudill both of North Wilkesboro, Lonnie Caudill of Laurel and Tom Caudill of Seaford; three sisters, Betty Mae Royal, Vernon Roberts, and Mary Lou Perry all of North Wilkesboro, NC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Melba Caudill; a son, James Caudill; a brother, George Luther Caudill; and three sisters, Pauline Ballard, Bonnie Wagner, and Fannie Hawkins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pastor Joe Lecates will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
