Obituary

James C. Bell, Sr., 77, of Delmar, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was born on July 25, 1939 in Thurmond, West Virginia, a son of the late John and Elizabeth Bell. He was a lifelong Redskins fan, who enjoyed fishing, crabbing, camping, and all types of animals. He took joy participating in church activities such as the ice cream social and fall bazaar. He liked taking trips to Thurmond, WV, Assateague Island, and Ocean City. He enjoyed telling jokes to anyone who thought they were funny…and even those who didn't. He retired from Dukes Lumber and was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Ann Bell; sons, James "Jay" Charles Bell (Ruth Ellen) of Champ, Maryland, John James Bell (Penny) of Delmar, James Cabbelle Bell, Jr. (Vicky) of Parsonsburg, and Joseph Lynn Bell (Kimberlie) of Beaufort, NC; seven grandchildren; brothers, John Lee Bell of Elkhart, Indiana, George Eugene Bell of Dayton, Ohio, Charles Gayla Bell of Charleston, West Virginia, and Christopher Lynn Bell of Dayton, Ohio; sisters, Rosalee Light of Oak Hill, West Virginia, Juel Elizabeth Acord of Red Star, West Virginia, and Thelma Louise Winkler of Irvine, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ella Sue Johnson who resided in Richmond, Virginia. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Melson's United Methodist Church, 32705 Melson Road, Delmar, Maryland. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Reverend John Oltman will officiate. Interment will follow in Melson's Cemetery in Delmar. In memory of Mr. Bell, contributions may be sent to Melson's United Methodist Church, 32705 Melson Road, Delmar, MD 21875 or to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
