Obituary

SALISBURY-Jack L. Myers, 87, of Salisbury, died Friday, April 12, 2013 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was born in York, Nebraska in 1925, a son of the late Charles Edward Myers and Thelma L. (Harper) Myers. Jack graduated from University of Nebraska in Lincoln before proudly serving his country in the US Army in the post-World War II era. He worked for many years in the food processing industry as an agricultural engineer. He spent most of his career with Chef Boyardee and also Green Giant. Working for these companies allowed his family to move to various parts of the country and eventually brought them to the Eastern Shore in the early 1970's. He was an active member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar, where he served in various capacities through the years. He was also a member of the Wicomico Masonic Lodge No. 91, was active with the Order of the Eastern Star and the Salisbury Demolay chapter. He held various offices with the Mason-Dixon Woodworker's Group and, along with some of the members, helped restore the Delmar caboose in the mid 1980's. While always willing to lend a hand, Jack helped with maintenance at the Delmar Public Library when needed. He had a true love for animals and a special affinity for owls and served as a docent for the Salisbury Zoo for many years. He enjoyed working with the Scales and Tails program and many other educational programs associated with the zoo. Jack had a wonderful collection of clocks and books, as he was an avid reader. Traveling was also a favorite pastime for Jack as he traveled to Australia and many countries in Europe. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Betty Jeanne Myers; a daughter, Jeanne L. Anderton (Edward) of Hebron; a son, Terry L. Myers (Maria) of Salisbury; 2 grandchildren, Joe Cerrato, USMC and Stephanie Myers; a sister, Janet Keyser (Jack) of PA; and a brother, Tom Myers (Pat) of FL.
