SHARPTOWN— Jack Riggin Bennett, 88, of Sharptown, died Monday, July 11, 2011 at his home in Sharptown. He was born June 8, 1923 in Sharptown, a son of the late Fred N. and Mary Howard Bennett. Jack graduated from Sharptown High School and Goldey Beacom College. He began farming at an early age and continued to farm until his health failed. He was a member of the Sharptown Fire Department and Asbury United Methodist Church in Sharptown. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorthye Walker Bennett; 4 sons and their wives, Donald and Cindy of Sharptown, Randall and Anne of Delmar, Jack and Cindy of Sharptown and Bruce and Gail of Laurel; 2 brothers, Dick Bennett of Laurel and Bill Bennett of Galestown; 2 sisters, Iris Lankford of Sharptown and Ruth Hall of Seaford; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Fred and Frank Bennett and sisters Naomi Sullivan, Alma Miller and Jane Cherrix. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 at Short Funeral Home, in Delmar. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Sharptown. The Reverend James Penuel will officiate. Interment will follow in Firemen's Cemetery in Sharptown.
