Irene M. Phillips, 83, of Nanticoke, Maryland, died on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. She was born August 18, 1927 in Salisbury, a daughter of the late Harry Lee "Mutt" Messick and Bertha Banks Messick. Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Calvary Baptist Tabernacle in Salisbury. She was always very good with numbers and worked as a secretary and treasurer for Farmers & Planters in Salisbury for over 58 years. She also worked preparing taxes for various companies such as F.W. Frantz and AgriTech and worked with several banks. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Julian Phillips; two sons, Michael Phillips and Eric Phillips and his wife Sheila; and grandchildren, Jennifer and Eric, Jr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Shofstahl. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the Short Funeral Home, 13 East Grove Street in Delmar. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Lou Bradley will officiate. Interment will be private.
