With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dr. I. Kent Elkington, DDS, who peacefully departed from this world on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at TidalHealth Nanticoke Hospital, in Seaford, Delaware. Born on October 27, 1948, in Tooele, Utah, to Glen and Zola Elkington. Kent was a devoted husband to Karen S. Elkington and a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He was 75 years old. Dr. Elkington was a dedicated family man, survived by his beloved wife of almost 52 years, Karen, who he married in the Salt Lake City Utah LDS Temple, August 25, 1972; his children, Kelly E. Wheeler (Douglas), Brett Wade Elkington (Karyn), Jamie E. Nicholls, Michael H. Elkington (Audra), and Ashley E. Hatch (Jason); grandchildren, Ian, Brianna, Emily, Brayden, Damien, Jordan, Kayleigh, Dylan, Lena, Myla, Aaron, Lily, Calvin, Howie, and Thomas (arriving in October); siblings Don Elkington, Clair Elkington and Diane Sagers. His kind spirit, humility and devotion will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Mandy; and a brother, Brice Elkington. He was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held many callings, including serving as Bishop of the Seaford Ward from 2008 to 2013. A Funeral Service in honor of Dr. Elkington will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 800 Fleetwood Dr, Seaford, DE, on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 3:00 pm, with a viewing starting at 2:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at a viewing at Short Funeral Home in Delmar on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Services will also be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 12:30 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4th Ward Chapel, 192 West 200 S. Tooele, UT, 84074 with a graveside service to follow at Tooele City Cemetery. Dr. Elkington's legacy of love, generosity, and dedication will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
