Hugh Leonard Dishman Born July 13, 1937 in Banner, VA Raised to glory May 20, 2025 in Salisbury, MD Born into the extreme poverty of Appalachia coal country to a young mother and father who passed after a coal mine collapse when Hugh was three months old. A redeemed sinner saved by God's grace Hugh entered into his final reward surrounded by his loving family and cherished by a host of friends. Hugh is survived by his beloved wife Sherry Revel Dishman; daughter, J.Lynne (Joyce} Dixon and son-in-law: Pastor Duke (Richard) Dixon; grandchildren, Paul Dixon, Bethany Parker and husband Jesse Parker; Sherry's family, her son, John Rash and wife Sharon; her grandchildren, Karen Rash and Lori Rash; along with his countless extended family members and cherished friends. He was preceded by his parents, James and Mary (Horrne) Dishman; wives, Thelma Joyce Dishman, Carole Stoltzfus Dishman and many siblings. His beloved family members and many cherished friends will think of him as a -person of deep, abiding, Christian faith, devoted to studying and applying God's word and ministries of teaching, caring, prayer and giving -confident, determined, calm and resilient optimist who overcame numerous tragedies and hardships with grace, wisdom, and growing strength of character -a capable and productive tradesperson, handyman, businessperson, and leader -friendly person who never met a stranger or failed to offer a word kindness or humor and who was devoted to his friends and loved ones, none more than his two cherished girls, devoted wife, Sherry and daughter, J.Lynne. A Service to the Witness of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove St, Delmar, DE 19940. Greeting the family will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service beginning at 11:00. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mt Pleasant UM Church, 36626 Mt Pleasant Rd. Willards, MD 21874.
