Obituary

Hollis L. Jones, Sr., 75, of Delmar, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was born on April 19, 1942 in Salisbury, a son of the late John Jones and Amanda Arvey. Hollis retired from National Vault in Salisbury after thirty plus years. He will be remembered as a jokester by those who knew him. Throughout the years, Hollis enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a devout believer in Christ and was a member of the Delmar Wesleyan Church. Hollis served the Delmar community as a member of Delmar Fire Department for 14 years. After his retirement from National Vault, he continued to serve the community as a crossing guard at Delmar High School. He is survived by his children, John Jones (late wife Cathy), Hollis Jones (Kimberly), Sally Ferro (Ed), and Tammy Jones; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, George Alexander and Woody Jones; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Delores Anne Jones; a sister, Carrie Lemon; and a brother, Elmer Alexander. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Reverend James Hitch will officiate. The interment will follow the service in Bivalve U.M. Church Cemetery. In memory of Mr. Jones, contributions may be sent to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
