Hollis Levin Bailey, Jr, 86, went home to be with the Lord Jesus, passing away at his home in Salisbury. He was born January 16, 1926, to the late Hollis and Louise Bailey of Mardela Springs, MD. Hollis was a decorated World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps, 4th division from 1944-1946. He fought in the Pacific Theater and was wounded in the battle of Iwo Jima. Hollis worked as a long distance truck driver and was later employed by Hearne Produce as office manager. His happiest times were spent fishing and crabbing. He also enjoyed traveling; and he and his wife toured the 50 states for their 50th anniversary. Hollis, a beloved husband leaves behind his devoted wife of nearly 68 years, Jean Twilley Bailey; daughter Nancy Lewis (Kent) of Mt. Airy, NC; son David Bailey (Diana) of Salisbury, MD; 3 grandchildren, Ronda Lavoie (David) of Terre Hill, PA, Laurie Dickson (Roland) of Pageland, SC, and Davis Bailey (Karianne) of Simi Valley, CA; 5 great-grandchildren, Amanda Vinson (Matt) of Oakfield, GA, Sam Westbrooks (Jenny) USMC Okinawa, Japan, Jonathan Levoie USN, Roda, Spain, Morgan Lavoie (Arelan) USN Charleston, SC, and Dylan Hollis Bailey Simi Valley, CA; 3 great-great-grandchildren, Allana Westbrooks, Gage Westbrooks, and Mason Vinson; a brother, Harold Bailey (Rachel) of Auburndale, FL; a sister, Barbara Hastings of Easton; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Barbara Twilley of Salisbury, MD. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered by many friends and business associates for his friendship, delicious homemade fudge and backyard fish fries. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00.
