Helen Tarr Rutter, 88, of Girdletree, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at her home. She was born October 3, 1924 in Girdletree, a daughter of the late Milton E. Tarr and Pruella Young Tarr. She was a long time, active member of Spence Baptist Church in Snow Hill, where through the years she served in various capacities. Her life centered around her church, her family and her friends. She was a true prayer warrior and blessed many people with the cards and letters she sent. She is survived by 2 daughters, April Adams and Jo Ellen Bynum (Stephen), all of Girdletree; grandchildren, William Joseph Rutter (Candie), Jaime Aaron (Scott), Eliza Rutter Sanders (Marc), Laura Rutter Plitt (Mike), Jessica Jo Rutter, Helen Elizabeth Bynum, Victoria Grace Bynum and Margaret Annelise Bynum; 2 great grandchildren, Grace and Adam Rutter; and 2 daughters-in-law, Connie Rutter of Willards and Teresa Owens of Snow Hill. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Artis J. Rutter, who passed January 4, 1998; 2 sons, Milton "Mickey" Berle Rutter and Charles Richard Rutter; and a sister, Susan Jane Overholt. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 31, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Spence Baptist Church in Snow Hill, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. Pastor Kenneth D. Elligson and The Reverend Marc Sanders will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Beth Eden Cemetery near Pocomoke.
