H. Eileen Gochnour, 88, of Salisbury and formerly of Delmar, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 21, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland, a daughter of the late Elsie Juanita (Frederick) Bales and Samuel Wayne Bales. Eileen worked many years at K&L Microwave in Salisbury and also as a "lunch lady" in the cafeteria at Delmar Elementary School. She was a member of the former Laurel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Her faith was important to her and she read her bible every day. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She will be remembered for always having a smile, her love of a good cup of coffee, and watching her favorite show, Everybody Loves Raymond every night at 8 pm. She is survived by her sons, Grayson William "Billy" Hyle, Jr. (Kathy), and Dwayne O. Gochnour (Ann); daughter, Kathy E. Grammo (Michael); daughter-in-law, Debbie Hyle; granddaughter, Stefanie Eileen Gochnour; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathleen Armacost; her BFF, Wendy Rayne; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orton "Whitey" Gochnour; son, David A. Hyle; sister, Ruby Harsh; and brothers, Samuel Bales, Jr., and John Bales. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. The funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Pastor Joel Beiler will officiate. Due to current gathering restrictions, masks and social distancing will be required. Interment will be private.
