He was born December 14, 1916 in Snow Hill, a son of the late Grover Cleveland Carmean and Bertha (Kelly) Carmean. Graham's work was one of his passions. His love of the land also led him to become a farmer. Graham's other passion was his church, as he was raised in Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in Snow Hill before becoming a long time, active member of Bates United Methodist Church in Snow Hill. At Bates Memorial, Graham served on many committees through the years, including Trustees, cemetery committee and finance committee, and also very active in the Christian Endeavor Men's Group. He helped organize the fall bazaar and was known by many for his vegetable soup. He enjoyed helping the youth of his church and his community. He loved vegetable gardening with his daughter-in-law, Hope, and was always very proud of his three grandsons. He is survived by his son, Steve Carmean and his wife, Hope of Snow Hill; three grandsons, Jimmy Carmean and his wife, Andréa of Canada, Michael Carmean of Snow Hill and Sgt. Aaron Carmean and his wife Jessica, with the 5th Army Rangers of Camp Frank D. Merrill, Dahlonega, GA; and two nephews, Jerry Carmean and Johnny Carmean, both of Snow Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Kathleen (Young) Carmean, who passed in 2001, and a brother, Thurman Carmean. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Bates Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00.
