DELMAR-Grace Isabelle "Izzy" Adkins, 89, of Delmar, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief stay. She was born June 11, 1927 in Laurel, a daughter of the late Clarence and Sarah (Whaley) Johnson. Mrs. Adkins worked as a presser at the WR Wilson Pants Factory for 25 years until they closed, then worked several years at the Banks & Pusey Garment Factory. Her life revolved around her family and she cherished times spent with her children, great grandchildren, siblings and close friends. She also enjoyed the outdoors and was happy when fishing and crabbing. She is survived by sons, Joseph Adkins and wife, Gail of Millsboro and Scott Adkins and wife, Theresa of Delmar; daughters, Bonnie Evans of Delmar, Sharon Shockley and husband, Dennis of Laurel and Brenda Evans and husband, Steven of Delmar; 11 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; brothers, Roland Johnson of Camden and Howard James Johnson and wife, Carol of Laurel; and sisters, Ann Wainwright of Delmar and Gloria Milligan and husband, David of Laurel. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband. George Edward Adkins, Sr., who passed in 1985; and a son, George "Eddie" Adkins, Jr. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 12:00 noon at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where a visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00. The Reverend Bill Goslee will officiate. Following the service she will be laid to rest at Powellville Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
