Gloria M. Adkins, 85, of Delmar, died Monday, November 5, 2012 at Delmar Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Crisfield on November 10, 1926, a daughter of the late Ural and Helen Carey. Gloria worked for a number of years as a clerk in medical records at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. More recently she worked as a clerk for the Town of Delmar, a job she truly loved. She was a life member of the Delmar VFW Post 8276 Ladies Auxiliary and the Delmar Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling and was a member of several bowling leagues. She also enjoyed caring for her rose bushes and playing shuffleboard. She is survived by 2 sons, Phillip C. Childress (Sally) of Seaford and Bryan E. Adkins (Twila) of Salisbury; 6 grandchildren, David Childress, Ashley Adkins, Sara Adkins, Anne Childress, Lane Stutzman and Chad Stutzman; and 2 great grandchildren, Lillian and Evan. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Sandy Barone (Frank) of Salisbury and Jean Hall (Roger) of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 from 10:00 to 12:00 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Melson's Cemetery in Delmar. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Delmar Fire Department, P.O. Box 143, Delmar, DE 19940.
