Giancarla Fanin Lane, 76, of Salisbury, formerly of Delmar, died Thursday, February 8, 2018 at her home in Salisbury. She was born June 9, 1941 in Vicenza, Italy, a daughter of the late Gino and Gioconda (Girardella) Fanin. She graduated from the University of Vicenza in Italy with an art degree. In Vicenza she met U.S. Army PFC Jimmy Lane and was married there on March 1, 1960 and came to America shortly thereafter. Giancarla worked for the Wicomico County Board of Education with special needs children for over 10 years and also worked helping disabled adults at Dove Pointe, from where she retired in 2006. She was a member of the Salisbury Moose Lodge and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Her hobbies and interests included art, dancing, listening to Italian Opera music, crafts, cooking, gardening and loved the ocean. Her passion was helping others and taking care of people, especially her grandbabies and great grandbabies. She is survived by 3 children, Janet Lane, Debby Lane and Gino Lane; 9 grandchildren, Amie Ingram, Jesse Kissinger, David Kissinger, Jr., Melissa Kissinger, Sean Otte, Caleb Wray, Spencer Lane, Mayson Lane and Gianna Lane; 8 great-grandchildren, Jocilyn, Alexander and Ethan Ingram, Emersyn and soon-to-be Evelyn Kissinger, Aden Kissinger, Maximus McWilliams and Penelope Rose Lane; and sisters, Laura Fanin, Flora Gasparini, Paola Vedovato and Loredana Jenkins. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Spence Lane; 2 grandsons, Payton Lane and Nicholas Otte; and her significant other, Larry Esham. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Delmar. Interment will follow at Community Church Cemetery in Ocean Pines.
