Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Wootten, 77, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, March 28, 2026.He was born at home in Millsboro, Delaware, on April 24, 1948, the son of Ralph and Sarah Wootten.

Jerry worked as an equipment operator for many years at companies including Kenney Construction, George & Lynch, and Delaware Solid Waste, where he later retired. He was a classic car enthusiast who enjoyed working outdoors and planting flowers around his home. 

He also loved attending Elvis impersonator shows with his family.He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Mears (Craig) and Tracy Payne (Shane); his grandchildren, Kyle Mears, Shawn Mears, Mackenzie Payne, and Kamryn Payne; and his great-granddaughters, Kinsleigh and Taytum Mears. He is also survived by his former wife and dear friend, Linda Wootten, as well as his brothers, Jimmy, Bobby, and Skip Wootten; and his sisters, Shirley Baker and Barbara Truitt (Larry).He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Sarah (Hitchens) Wootten; and his brother, Billy Wootten.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 at Short funeral Home in Delmar, followed by a funeral service which begins at 11:00. Pastor Brent Schott will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar.
