LAUREL- Gerald Lee "Jerry" Hastings, 67, of Laurel, died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at his home in Laurel. He was born March 28, 1947 in Laurel, a son of the late Paul and Stella Jane Elliott Hastings. Jerry proudly served his country in the US Air Force with a tour in Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force as a Jet Mechanic after 20 years of service. After his military career ended, he worked as a mechanic at Sears in Seaford and for a number of years at Pep Boys in Salisbury. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Delmar. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and traveling when he was able. Some of his favorite trips were to visit friends in South Carolina. His greatest pleasure came from taking care of 2 of his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Peggy Lee Hastings; 2 sons, Richard Alan Hastings and Brian Thomas Hastings; a daughter, Julie Marie Thomas; 5 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; 3 brothers; 2 sisters; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. Pastor James Riddle will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. Arrangements are being handled by Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
