Obituary

DELMAR- George B. Truitt, 94, of Delmar, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Sarah Margaret's and Mollie's Place in Delmar. He was born July 20, 1915 in Delmar, a son of the late Larry and Lovey (Foskey) Truitt. George loved his work on the railroad and retired in 1975 after 39 years of service as a mechanic for Penn Central Railroad. He was very active in his community and was a member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar, past president of the Delmar Kiwanis Club, past Master of Delmar Masonic Lodge #201 AF & AM, past president of the Past Masters Association of Wicomico County, and a 32nd degree Mason in the Delaware Consistory of Wilmington. George was a charter member of the Roundtable of the Railroad Café. He also served three terms on the Delmar,Delaware Town Council in the 1940's and 50's, and also from 1975 to 1976 and was Republican Commiteeman for many years. Other memberships include Delmar Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as an honorary member and past president, the Delmar Historical Society, the Delmar Downtown Revitalization Committee, where he was helpful in the restoration of the caboose, the Delmar High Alumni and the Delmar High School Boosters. He is survived by a daughter, Loveyann T. Calloway and her husband Jack, of Bowie; a son, Roger L. Truitt and his wife Ann Lynn of Hodgenville, KY; three grandchildren, R. Rhett Calloway, Lori Ann Truitt, and Larry S. Truitt; 3 great grandchildren, Taylor L. Calloway, Shelby L. Truitt, and Benjamin Truitt; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Irene Dutton Truitt; four brothers, E. Russell Truitt, Charles M. Truitt, Lewis Truitt, and James Truitt; and a sister, Helen T. Livingston. A Masonic memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at Short Funeral Home, 13 East Grove Street in Delmar, where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Marsha Carpenter will officiate. Interment will follow the service at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar.
