Obituary

George Miller, 90, of Salisbury peacefully left this life to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. He was born on April 3, 1925 in Knoxville, Tennessee, a son of the late George Miller and Martha Ann (Mattie) Slavey Miller. George married the late Lilllian P. Hammond on April 8, 1944. George worked for over 30 years as a poultry grower. He was an active and beloved member of Zion Assembly Church of God where he was a strong pillar, prayer warrior and great man of faith. He loved spending time with his family as well as fishing, planting a garden, hunting, and best of all, playing his guitar and singing for the Lord. He is survived by six children, Donald F. Miller (Natalie) of Red Lion, PA, Joan M. Donaway of Willards, George Samuel Miller of Delmar, Molly Hayward (Jim) of Salisbury, Kathy Timmons (Freddie) of Pittsville, and Georgia A. Hearne (Jim) of Delmar; a daughter-in-law, Diana Miller of Centreville; 19 grandchildren, Melinda Howell, Robert Miller, Cindy Vincent, Lisa Miller, Donna Whaley, Ruthie Hilliard, Jan Rollins, William Donaway, Jr., George Samuel Miller, Jr., Jim Hayward, Jr., Emmie L. Shortall, Wade Timmons, David E. Hearne, Penny S. Bell, Ryan Miller, Michael Miller, Renee Phippin, Emma Darling, and Rhonda Adcox; 20 great grandchildren; 10 great- great grandchildren; a brother, Noah Miller (Sallie) of Tennessee; a sister, Mildred Marie Kelley of New York; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian P. Miller; a son, Keith Miller; a grandson, Donald F. Miller, Jr.; three brothers, James Robert Miller, Charlie Wilmer Miller, and Roy Franklin Miller; five sisters, Eva Bentley, Martha Dandy, Delores Irene Cooper, Georgia May Boyle, and Alice Aileen Miller; a son-in-law, William Donaway; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Miller. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to his special friends, Leon and Dot LaChance of Seaford, for their thoughtfulness and generosity through the years. A celebration of George's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. A reception will follow the graveside service at Melson's Community Hall on Melson Road in Delmar.
