MARDELA SPRINGS- George C. Kontos, 81, of Mardela Springs, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. George was born in Paros, Greece on November 21, 1928. He served in the Greek Air Force, where he was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi. He worked many years as a marine engineer for the Seafarer's International Union. He is survived by step-children, Mary Frances Werner of Sharptown, Paula J. Bostic and her husband James of Joppa, MD and Roger D. Rose of Sharptown; and a niece, Christina Figetakis and a nephew, Michael Figetakis, both of Greece. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Beverly Kontos, who passed in 2005. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. at 8:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, Delaware. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 520 S. Ponca Street, Baltimore, MD 21224. The Reverend Michael Pastrikos will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Baltimore. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home, Delmar.
