George Harry Daly, 77, of Laurel, Delaware passed away peacefully on Monday, July 11, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 3, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Irene Claire (Lusher) Daly and George James Daly. George was raised in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, served in the U.S. Navy and spent his career working as an electrical contractor. After retirement, about five years ago George and his wife retired to a peaceful area in Laurel, Delaware, which he fondly called "Pop Pop's Paradise." George discovered his love for fishing at an incredibly early age, which led to many surf fishing trips at the Jersey Shore. His love of nature and the outdoors also led him to volunteer at Trap Pond State Park with the youth fishing tournaments. He was a true outdoorsman and always liked seeing an eagle or osprey fly overhead. George enjoyed learning about American history by watching many of the Ken Burns documentaries on PBS. He could also be found volunteering at the Harvest Ministries food pantry in Delmar. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janet Lee Daly; sons, Brendan Daly and his wife Kelly, Bryan Daly, and Shaine Daly and his wife Sherryl; grandchildren, Michael, Sean, Erin, Stacey, Ashley, and Kyle; and sisters, Carol Rice and her husband Bill, and Eileen Simons and her husband Bob. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 2:00 pm at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 101 E. State Street, Delmar, Delaware. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:30 to 2:00 pm at church. Pastor Phyllis Walton will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 101 E. State Street, Delmar, DE 19940. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
