Obituary

DELMAR-August 23, 2011-Gene Gordy Adkins, 58, of Delmar, MD died in his home after a short battle against Malignant Melanoma. A son of Lloyd and Lura Adkins, of Snow Hill and husband to Joan Ellen Murphy Adkins and father of Puller, 25, Kathryn, 22, and Hunter,18, Adkins, all of Delmar. He is also survived by a brother Richard Adkins, Box Iron, a sister Barbara Tribeck of Snow Hill. His brother Keith Adkins preceded him in death in 2005. His in-laws include Cheryl Adkins and Gerald Tribeck both of Snow Hill, MD and Sharon Payne of Stockton, MD. A large extended family including many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins grieve his passing. Gene was honorably discharged from the Air Force having served The United States from 1972-1976. He was a passionate supporter of conservative thinking. He loved the political process. He was always fascinated by history and particularly the lessons taught by war. A thwarted rancher, Gene worked for the Worcester County Sheriff's office, Burroughs and Standard Register in the printing business, and at the time of his death had been employed for 18 years by the State of Maryland in the Department of Corrections. A faithful friend of both man and beast, Gene leaves a large number of friends who honor and respect him. [Included here are a number of dogs and horses] His faith in God was unceasing and took precedence in the last months of his earthly life. He prayed faithfully for each need that came to his attention and loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his being. Services will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Living Stones Church, Winterplace Parkway in Salisbury, at 3 PM with seating beginning at 2:30 PM. Private internment will be at a later date. In lieu of flower arrangements, the family requests donations be made to two projects; #1-A large tree to be planted over Gene's grave and #2 -Toward the purchase of DVD players for the Hackerman- Patz House (Cancer Care Center near Johns Hopkins).
